The normal vehicle weight is on the shackle and will not open.  Offroad, the shackle opens up and allows for additional articulation. It is a simple idea that is a long time coming.  This shackle is made of 1\/2 inch plate, weighing in at 14 pounds each.  They are built to handle and perform in extreme theymay damage the shackle mount or spring.  By making them just a slightbit wider, they allow the axle to swing in for more articualtion. DO NOT over tighten Hyper Shackle bolts, we have seen
